DAILY RACING FORM
ISSUED EVERY DAY.
DAILY RACING FORM PUBLISHING CO
Editor. F. H. Brunell.
Entered in the Poet Office at Chicago as sec-
ond class matter.
LOULOU R’S SOMERSAULT.
Perhaps the most inconsistent performer at
Ideal Park is B. J. Johnson s Terra Cotta —
Marie Foster filly Loulou R. She is very speedy
and has a liking for the mud, but has run a
couple of good races on a fast track. Yesterday
she was in with Provident and Terrific, and
taking her last race into consideration she did
not seem to have a chance, still her price was
forced from 3 to 1, down to 2 to 1, by
a press of money. There was nothing to the
race. Loulou R got away with a flying start
and the farther the lot raced the farther she
beat them. Loulou R won, eased up, by eight
lengths from Provident. Anna Mayes, also
from Mr. Johnson’s stable, won her race in a
common canter. Her win, perhaps, would not
have been so easy had The Sculptor been given
a chance at the start. He was turned the wrong
way of the track when Mr. Dwyer dispatched
the field.
G. G. Moshier’s honest filly May Galop upset
a good thing in the seven and a half furlong
condition race. Fred Foster had his recent
purchase Counter Tenor, in what he thought a
soft spot and backed him accordingly. The
Ruppert cast-off was the best horse, but a trifle
short and carelessly ridden, finished just behind
first money.
Minnie Miller, well ridden and the natural
favorite, won the first race by a neck with a bit
to spare. Sauterne, who is a natural mud run-
ner, was at the liberal price of 7 to 5, and more
than well handled by Ham won handily.
T, W. Coulter, Ideal Park’s favorite owner,
got a telegram from his home in New York that
his father was not expected to live. Mr. Coniter
left for the East at once.
DRASTIC EASTERN ACTION.
Riley Grannan has again been ruled off for
alleged corrupt practices on the turf. The
Jockey Club, which governs the Eastern turf, is
a conservative and narrow body, but it is
usually just when it takes sharp action. There
have been rumors of a corrupt confederacy on
the metropolitan tracks under Jockey Club con-
trol for some time. The officials investigated
them and waited for Mr. Belmont’s return from
England before making their decision public.
Mr. Belmont agreed with their findings of the
stewards. They are startling. Grannan is
found guilty of bribing trainers and jockeys and
is ruled off for such offenses. Dr. Allen Bur-
rows Jr., is also punished in the same way.
W. M. Wallace, of Kentucky, a relative of
Byron McClelland, and ow T uer of The Commoner,
The Wiunor, Roy Carruthers, Rerap and Refu-
gee, is banished from Jockey Club courses by
the same ruling. His entries will not in the
future be accepted. Pat Dunne’s jockey, Mar-
tin, has been suspended, and Coylie, Jimmie
McLaughlin’s lightweight, has lost his license.
Jockey Taral is reprimanded for accepting a
bribe of $500. The Jockey Club also adopted
and promulgated this order:
“Any owner, trainer or stable employe who
shall, directly or indirectly, make any bet or
wager on auy race against any horse owned,
trained or in the care of such owner, trainer or
stable employe, shall be ruled off; or auy person
who may contribute moneys to any other person
for the purpose of being bet by the receiver
against auy horse for account of the contributor
shall be ruled off, as shall also the person who
shall receive such moneys.”
There were present at this actionable meeting
August Belmont, James R. Keene, James Gal-
way, Andrew Miller, F. R. Hitchcock and F. K.
Sturgis.
If justly applied to the testimony it gathered
and digested, the rulings of the Jockey Club is
healthful and timely. The American turf needs
discipline. It is far from orderly— and law is
healthy at all times when properly applied.
The balance of punishment is against Western
turfman in the ruling. Perhaps this is as it
should be. But it isn’t in line with the form
figures of everyday Eastern racing. The map
which caused the action of the Jockey Club offi-
cials is not jet on view. One must be given, in
justice to the parties convicted. Ever lover of
the noblest of sports will accept one with broad,
just and clean lines. The m p cannot be given
too soon.

Post 3 minutes. Start good. Won in a lorg, hard drive of two. May Galop ran a good, game
race. She seemed to be beaten on the stretch turn. Counter Tenor was a trifle short, and Soden
a bit careless. He was the best horse. Sunburst dropped out of it on back stretch, and came
very fast on the end. He would have won had it been a mile. Dejure and Stowaway were out-
classed.

Winner— B. g, 3, by Tr^mont— Semaphore.
Post 1 minute. Start good. Won handily after an early drive for position; second all out ;
third coming strong. Boy rode excellent race on Sauterne and kept in the path all the way.
Winslow was shut off at half mile ground, but finished strong and ran a good iace. Canewood
was in his own way. B. F. Fly Jr. and Forseen were hardly better.
NOTES OF THE TURF.
Dan Honig and Jockey Garner may part. The
contract uniting them has expired. Rector,
riding for Honig, is Garner’s step brother. Gar-
ner is to ride the Corrigan horses in San Fran-
cisco the coming winter and may become a
fixture with the green-white sash.
The rules were changodso that in future book-
makers must adjust their credits. The over-
night sweepstakes was defined as against the
stake claim for such events.
The American Turf Congress did nothing
deeply affecting the Western turf at its annual
meeting in St. Louis. These officials were
elected: President, Alex. Labold, Cincinnati;
Vice-President, C. C. Maffitt, St. Louis; Secre-
tary, Ed Hopper, Cincinnati ; Treasurer, O. L.
Bradley, Lexingtion. These are all new
officers with the exception of Mr. Hopper.
